Vitreous Enamels in the art of Cloisonné Enamels

1.5″ x 1″

Hibiscus is a cloisonne jewelry piece created by Patsy Croft. It belongs to Spring collection of amazing enamel jewelry with unique jewelry designs.

The Hibiscus Cloisonné Pendant is designed with transparent enamels  to let the sparkle of the fine silver shine through creating an eye catching cloisonné enamel jewel.

The Hibiscus genus is quite large, comprising several hundred species that are native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. Member species are renowned for their large, showy flowers and are commonly known simply as hibiscus.

To create cloisonné enamels it is alway a challenge to work with reds. Did you know red is the most difficult color of enamel to work with? Yes!

Enamels in general do not like metal. Strange as it might seem, we are able to work with enamels on metal by applying flux as the first coat. Like primer on a car before the color of paint go on. The most common metal that enamel is applied to is copper. But red will not show up well on copper as it will on fine silver. Fine silver is my first choice to enamel on to create the sparkle to catch your eye.

All of my hand made enamel jewelry I design as lasting piece of art. Influenced by nature and making a respectful statement of the clients love.
