My love for the oceans inspired me to create custom enamel pendants piece “The Nautilus”. Nautilus is an interesting and complex creature populating the the beautiful deep blue waters.
Custom enamel pendant has two sides. A cloisonné side of the jewel represents the inside spiral of this beautiful shell. While the opposite side shows the exterior shape of it’s shell with small piercings which allows the wearer to view the matte white outer layer the nautilus. Finally, jewel is set in 14k gold is accented with a pink fresh water pearl.
The “tentacles” of the nautiluses are actually cirri (singular: cirrus). They are composed of long, soft, flexible appendages which are retractable into corresponding hardened sheaths. While other cephalopods have either eight or ten tentacles, nautiluses have a varying number that ranges up to 90.
Nautilus can withdraw completely into its shell. Consequently it closes the opening on its body with a leathery hood formed from two specially folded tentacles. If you would like to read more about this awesome sea creature, you can do that here.
